Team Coaching for Consultants

This Postgraduate Certificate will enable participants to develop their confidence and skills as a team coach. It will deepen their understanding and ability to intervene with teams and groups and hence increase the impact on their organisational clients. It is a stand-alone course with optional accreditation process or can be part of the two-year Masters in Executive Coaching.

During this program, you will gain a sound understanding of the roles and challenges of being a team coach. You will also integrate theory on team coaching into your practice. Over the module you will deepen your awareness and insight into group process and group development.

You will learn to recognise and appreciate derailment and under performance in teams, be aware of the impact and meaning of various forms of 'scapegoating', and find ways to respond to and contain such 'dark side dynamics' in teams. Finally you will develop your ability to make judgments about when and how to intervene in a team.

Program Coverage

The program will introduce ways of thinking about teams and groups and their development, which are underpinned by a relational orientation to team coaching. It is designed around four workshops:

1 – Contracting with teams and their contexts

2 – Systemic and psychological views on team coaching

3 – Board coaching and board dynamics

4 – Professionalism in the team coaching relationship

A Personal Reflective Journey

At the start of the programme you will receive a range of reflective assignments plus tutoring which helps you to prepare for and reflect upon each of the workshops. The Personal Reflective Journey comprises:

  • Tasks intended to make the learning of every workshop more pertinent
  • Recommended articles with questions to answer
  • Tutorials on the basis of your reflective writing.
