About this course

Hosted by Erik de Haan and Marc Gaudart

This workshop is part of a trilogy that tracks the flow of time during coaching. It will be followed by a CPD workshop by Simon Cavicchia and Erik de Haan called Working with the present here and now and then followed by a workshop Bringing the future into coaching hosted by Tammy Tawadros and Erik de Haan.

There is surprisingly little theory and literature on the power and effect of the first moments of a coaching relationship. Recent coaching research has been centered around “critical moments”, yet the powerful observations and learnings from the first moments of a coaching session have often been neglected. These moments offer wonderful insights to the client’s and the coach’s emotions and state of mind.

This session will attempt to provide a theoretical perspective and framework to what happens in those “first moments”, which will be illustrated by case material – and worked through with help of practical experiences for the attendees.

By the end of the webinar, you will have obtained new insights into

  • How coaching begins before it even starts.
  • How first moments are pregnant with meaning.
  • Use of pre-transference and of the first impressions for every new conversation.
