The Alumni Affairs committee invites prospective MBA students to apply for a scholarship which honors the memory of Patricia Escudero, a Colombian-American alumnus from the class of 2000. Through the efforts of her classmates, the Patricia Escudero Memorial Scholarship will provide full tuition funding for one outstanding candidate for the September 2008 intake. The winning candidate may choose either the Boston or Dubai campus. To be eligible for the scholarship, MBA candidates must submit their complete application and a scholarship essay to Hult by May 15th . See full application details below.

When she first came to the United States from Colombia in 1985, Patricia knew two or three words of English. By 1992, she realized the American dream. Patricia raised her right hand and was sworn in as a United States citizen. She loved this country and returned to it full time after living in Colombia from 1993 to 1999 where she worked for several companies including Colgate-Palmolive.

In August of 1999, Patricia Escudero enrolled in the Arthur D. Little School of Management, now known as Hult International Business School, in Boston to pursue her Master’s degree. She had dreams of starting her own business. The goals she set in life kept her going. Shortly after joining the program in the fall of 1999, Patricia was diagnosed with cancer. She continued to attend classes throughout the fall and spring, juggling study and class assignments with radiation and chemotherapy sessions. She was determined to complete the program, despite the hardship.

Patricia’s impressive strength and perseverance served as role model to many. Her dedication to her teammates, and the class as a whole, brought light and life to all those around her. Nonetheless, in July of 2000 Patricia succumbed to the disease. She was three weeks short of graduating. Though she did not walk through graduation with her classmates, she was granted the degree posthumuously.

In her last week, she decided that she wanted to be away from all the hospitals and be in pleasant surroundings. She loved to travel, so she and Ana Maria took a trip to Aruba. Patricia’s goal was to see nice sunsets and sunrises, and put her tired body in the crystal blue waters of Aruba’s beaches. She knew it would be her last vacation and her final days were spent in pleasant surroundings on her terms. She died where she wanted to be.

The Scholarship honors the memory of Patricia Escudero, who remains in our hearts and continues to teach us lessons in our own lives.
