Undergraduate program—Management

The Professor of the Year Award for our Undergraduate program, Management category, was awarded to Professor Georgio Georgiades. Georgio brings with him a PhD in Management along with extensive business experience in HR and Change Management for companies including Hilton Hotels, Inmarsat Inc, and VUE Entertainment. He has authored several studies on the management of organizational change. Georgio values the unique faculty-student relationship at Hult, based on mutual trust and respect. “When I was at university, I never knew my Dean” he says, “and I never felt that comfortable approaching my professors. Here, we are all part of one community that values openness and honesty.” And Hult students value this too. Dongchen Shan, Hult BBA Class of 2016 grad, had this to say: “Professor Georgio is one of the best professors I have ever met! […]I genuinely learnt more from the professors once we had built an interpersonal connection with each other.”

“I enjoyed Professor Georgio’s classes so much, he is one of the best professors I have ever met! Not only is he immensely knowledgeable—he also has a fun, professional, interactive style, and the interpersonal skills I learnt from him have got me far in the workplace since I graduated.”

-Dongchen Shan, Technology Risk & Assurance Trainee at BDO UK LLP,
Hult BBA Class of 2016

Hi Georgio. Congratulations on the teaching award! How would you say your professional experience benefits students in the classroom?

As well as providing a practical understanding of how organizations operate, my business experiences enable me to bring real examples in to the classroom to make theory more tangible for students, which helps with their overall understanding. What’s more, it has allowed me to create a network of corporate contacts that I can bring in to the classroom.

And how would you describe your teaching style?

My overall philosophy supports interaction and encouraging students to critically think and challenge themselves and their peers. Knowing students by their first name creates a level of accountability on their part. Following that, I ensure that everyone gets a chance to say their opinion, answer questions, and interact. Exchanging viewpoints and ideas is essential to critical understanding. I also endeavor to build students’ confidence where it is lacking, for example by supporting them in learning to present—a key requirement of any future employer. Students know that I am here to help on a professional, as well as a personal, level. As a business school we are preparing future professionals, but at the same time building character and shaping ways of thinking and behaving.

“Students know that I am here to help on a professional, as well as a personal, level. As a business school we are preparing future professionals, but at the same time building character and shaping ways of thinking and behaving.”

-Dr. Georgio Georgiades, Professor of Management

What do you think makes both learning and teaching at Hult unique?

The professors here all put a lot of passion and energy into making the class time very hands-on, relevant, and practical. Also, students feel that they can approach us whenever they want, and with whatever issues they are dealing with, whether personal or academic.

And finally, why would you say a global education is critical today?

Organizations value different perspectives and ways of thinking because this equals innovation and improvement. Hult students are the epitome of global students. They’re driven, passionate, enthusiastic, motivated, and international. All of this gives them a competitive edge when they’re seeking employment after graduation.
