On August 31, Hult International Business School welcomed its first class, consisting of 112 students, to its Dubai campus. In so doing, it became the first top-ranked American institution to offer a US-accredited, full-time MBA program in the Gulf.

On September 1, the school hosted a “welcome mixer” at the Dubai Marriott Greens for all incoming Dubai students. The event celebrated the opening of the Dubai campus. It gave students, faculty, and staff an opportunity to mingle and get to know one another better.
Like their Boston counterpart, the average age of Hult Dubai students is 30 years; the average work experience is 6.5 years. Career backgrounds range from healthcare to engineering to retail to banking to the arts.
At the end of their one-year program, successful Hult Dubai students will receive a NEASC- and AMBA-accredited MBA degree. In their first two modules (trimesters), they will take core MBA courses similar in content and learning objectives to corresponding courses offered in Boston. In their last two modules, they will have the opportunity to ‘rotate’ to Hult’s Shanghai or Boston campus, where they will take advanced courses in Management, Finance, Strategy, and Marketing, as well as in specialty topics geared to the strengths of the regional economy. In their last module of the program, students will participate in an “Action Learning Project”, founded on the concepts of business practice, teamwork, and global competition.
Participating in the welcoming ceremony were Academic Dean Michael Barnes, Associate Dean Agnieszka Kuzniarski, Office Manager Lindsay Jones, the Hult Dubai administrative and recruiting teams, and myself. Featured in the day’s events were a cultural presentation by UAE national speaker Khulood al-Atiyat and a student mixer at the Marriott Green Community.
Hult Dubai students will begin their course of study with a month-long pre-MBA “Toolbox” that coincides with the Ramadan religious observance. During the Toolbox, Hult instructors Rob Bogosian and Mark Sato will coach them on leadership, teambuilding and presentation skills; Julie Yao Cooper will verse them in the case method; and Mufeed Rawashdee will drill them in an Accounting/Finance “bootcamp”. At the end of the day, Hult students will have ample time to mingle, mix, and socialize in Dubai’s vibrant nightlife.
