Q&A with Dr. Selina Neri

How did the idea for “The EY Emerging Technology Immersion Course for Women Leaders” come to life?

Selina: The idea came about through a conversation with EY’s tech practice lead in Dubai. Both organizations advocate for improving diversity in leadership roles in tech. Joining forces to build a unique immersion course in this space seemed like a natural choice.

What did the course entail?

Selina: We are witnessing a wave of digital innovation changing how we do business and live. Female leaders have the unique opportunity to position themselves at the forefront of these innovations. EY is focusing on demystifying and deploying tech for its clients, and Hult continues to deliver top-quality business education relevant to the world we live in.

Who attended the course?

Selina: Participants were senior female leaders working within top client organizations of EY in the MEA region.

Why was it crucial for Hult to support EY in creating a unique learning opportunity for female leaders in tech?

Selina: Creating unique learning opportunities that are niche and specific to industries, communities and regions is very much part of our offering, particularly at the Hult Dubai campus.

The UAE is very engaged in the tech space. Emerging technologies form the cornerstone of the National Agenda for Innovation, so it was important to us at the Dubai campus to co-develop, host, and deliver this unique event.

Can you tell us about the topics taught during the different sessions at the event?

Selina: We covered a wide spectrum of topics—from AI, robotics, and machine learning to VR, AR, and the metaverse—all from the angle of business relevance and application to practice.

What were the key takeaways for attendees?

Selina: Participants learned what these emerging technologies are and how they can be applied. They also received theoretical and practical sessions on different use cases, and last but not least, we all walked away with a great group of new friends!

Why was the Hult Dubai campus the perfect location for this event?

Selina: Dubai has a “nothing is impossible” attitude. Our Hult Dubai campus is full of learning opportunities. It’s a space where students, organizations, and NGOs can experiment and develop their innovative ideas.

In what other ways does Hult Dubai support the education of emerging technologies for females in Tech?

Selina: We run several courses focused on emerging tech, and I have personally worked in the tech industry for 26 years before moving into luxury, travel, and academia. We have good knowledge of emerging technologies and are a force for good for female empowerment—helping women (as well as men) to look at tech as exciting and filled with opportunities, as opposed to a “scary” beast!
