To think, it started just one year ago…

I was sitting at my dining table watching the Hult Prize 2017 final live on my computer, thinking to myself how inspiring it must be in that room at the United Nations with so many influential and talented leaders. I wasn’t sure exactly how I would manage it, but all I knew was next year that was going to be me.

My Hult journey has been one the most amazing and transformative years of my life. Not only have I grown as a young professional, but I’ve also grown so much as a person overall. I’ve gained so much confidence in myself, believing in my strengths and understanding my weaknesses.

One incredible year of growth

I started the year in a new city, knowing no one, but sure that I wanted to share my life and experiences with others. Because of that—and my belief in Hult—I decided to become a Hult Global Ambassador.

My goal was not to just share the positive aspects, but also to be honest about what I found challenging. I knew that every day wouldn’t be easy and at times, my own stresses or social anxiety would try to keep me from being the best version of myself. What I didn’t know was that many of my fellow Hultians were feeling the exact same way.

Being an ambassador allowed me to connect with others, which played a large part in my growth. Throughout the year, every moment with friends and faculty became more precious, especially when I realized graduation was right around the corner. The fear and excitement were very real.

The big day arrived on August 27th, and it was time to collect that coveted diploma. I took photos with friends and family thinking this was definitely the end of it all. But Hult had one more glorious surprise and one last moment to share with others—the Hult Prize 2018!

Ending on a high: The Hult Prize 2018

As an ambassador, I was lucky enough to be chosen to represent Hult at the United Nations in New York City. (Talk about coming full circle, right? Now I was in that room!) I was inspired by so many other students and leaders on how to harness the power of energy to transform the world.

To think, this global competition started simply as an idea. But that’s just it—so much of my year started with a simple idea, like how I wanted to attend the Hult Prize or how I wanted to connect my Hult journey to others.

Making an impact, whether it’s in your life or the lives of millions, starts with an idea. And that was the biggest lesson I took from the Hult Prize. In the end, it didn’t really matter which of the six teams won. Each team had already accomplished something amazing—just with a simple idea!

With this spectacular year now at a close, my hope is that I helped one person. Maybe I helped one person decide that Hult was right for them. Or maybe I helped one person crush that next presentation with their public speaking skills. Or I helped one person embrace their home in their new Hult city and meet their fellow students and forge lifelong friendships.

Its been an incredible year filled with ups and downs—a year that has truly taken me beyond anything I could ever fathom. And I wouldn’t change a thing.
