FAQs

We've spoken to students from all corners of the globe and compiled their most common questions below.

What is the difference between the program in London and in San Francisco?

The biggest difference between the two cities is the activities and the culture. In London, you will get a sense of what it means to study in a bustling, European city. Our school is located by the financial district in London while just being a short walk away from the trendy neighborhood, Shoreditch. You are connected by underground to every part of the city and will get to experience getting around like the locals. In San Francisco, you will sense the relaxed Californian atmosphere while experiencing a city that is known for an incredible amount of technology start-up businesses. The city is located right by the bay and you will get a good sense of American culture. The classes will be covering the same subjects. The Business Case Challenge might be working with different companies.

What is the application process like?

You will be asked to fill in our application. Furthermore, if your mother tongue is not English, you will need to provide a test score from an English language proficiency test. After we have received your application, we will set up an interview with the Admissions team. The interview will be informal and the purpose of the interview is to get to know you better and to establish why you would like to take part of the program. Our goal is to understand if you will be a good fit with the program and the Hult values. No more than a week after the interview, we will inform you about our decision. If you have been accepted, we will send you the payment links. To confirm your spot, you will need to pay the deposit no more than 3 weeks later.

Are there any prerequisites to apply for Pre-University?

Because our Pre-University program is conducted in English, a good level of English language proficiency is required to ensure students get the most out of the program. We require non-native English speaking applicants to provide official evidence of their English proficiency at a level of IELTS 5.5 or EFSET 51. Please note, if you plan to attend Pre-University in London, non-native speakers will be required to submit an official score report from IELTS for visa purposes.

Do I need any previous experience or business knowledge to attend a Pre-University Program?

No, previous knowledge or business experience is not required—all interested students are welcome to join us and gain a foundational knowledge of global business.

I need a visa. What do I have to do?

After you have secured your seat, our visa team will contact you, to help you with the process.
If you are not able to secure a visa, you will get a full refund of the program fee. However, make sure that you apply in a timely manner since we will not be able to refund if you apply too late.

Where is the housing located?

You will be staying in the undergrad housing in San Francisco and London. You will be staying in a shared room in our student accommodation. You will be sharing the room with another student of the same sex.
In London, the housing is located right on campus, while you will be staying in the Hult Lodge in San Francisco. The Hult Lodge is located in Oakland and therefore you will be taken to campus everyday by the shuttle.

Can I share a room at Hult with a friend?

Yes, students can elect to share a room with a friend. This should be communicated to the Enrollment Team after their application has been submitted.

Will someone be available around the clock for student supervision and support?

Our experienced staff and student mentors will be on hand for students 24/7. Hult has decades of experience welcoming students from all over the world to our campuses, as well as supporting international students studying abroad.

Our dedicated Pre-University Program Manager and Program Coordinator are on site throughout the program to facilitate the day to day activities, answer any questions, and oversee student health and safety at all times.

During the day, students will spend time on campus with our undergraduate faculty and student mentors. Our specially-trained student mentors help to facilitate classroom activities and, as current Hult undergraduates, they’re happy to share the experience of student life at a global school.

Knowledgeable Hult staff and local tour directors lead our off-campus student excursions, sharing their insight on local culture and points of interest in London and San Francisco.

What kind of extracurricular activities are scheduled?

We will explore the local areas of San Francisco/London. Our extracurricular activities range from trips to local companies and attractions to immersive cultural excursions.

London: Street art tour, cricket lesson, afternoon tea, soccer in the park, watching a musical, explore the local markets.
San Francisco: Golden Gate Bridge, Clam Chowder on the pier, sailing under the bridges, Alcatraz.
A detailed itinerary for each program will be available before departure.

Which company will we be working with?

Next year’s company will be announced in the Spring. The last two years we have been working with the Premier League, Ford, and EA Games.

Will there be free time for students to explore the city on their own? Will this be allowed?

Students should expect a fun, full schedule of classes and activities during their summer at Hult. However, between activities there will be some free time available for exploration. Students will always be accompanied by a member of Hult staff or a student mentor who knows the area well and can provide local insight.
If your parents sign a waiver beforehand, you are allowed to leave campus on your own. However, everybody is required to attend all the scheduled activities. If you would like to meet up with family members or a friend during our scheduled activities, please consult with a member of staff beforehand, so that we can plan accordingly.

How will I keep in touch with family at home?

Students will have access to Wi-Fi throughout campus and in our student housing in order to keep in touch with family and friends. If students plan to use their mobile phone abroad, we recommend contacting your local service provider before traveling to ensure your phone will work and to confirm the associated charges.

Is Pre-University at Hult only for students interested in attending Hult International Business School?

Our Pre-University Summer School programs are for all students aged 16–19, regardless of where they plan to study in the future. During the program, students will gain new skills and knowledge that will be beneficial on any course of study.

Will participation in Pre-University Summer School benefit me if I go on to apply for Hult’s Bachelor of Business Administration program?

The application process for the Hult Bachelor program is completely separate from Pre-University at Hult. However, your summer experience at Pre-University will serve as a great introduction to undergraduate life at Hult, and help you to make an informed decision about applying. All applicants to the Bachelor of Business Administration program must meet the high standard of admissions criteria, however the skills and knowledge you will gain at Pre-University, along with the Hult faculty and staff you will meet, may prove beneficial when it comes to writing a compelling personal statement about why you feel Hult is the right fit for you.

Will I receive a certificate at the end of the program?

Yes, all participants who complete the program will receive a Certificate of Completion.

I can no longer attend the Pre-University program—does Hult offer a refund?

Yes, if for any reason you need to cancel your place up to 30 days before your program start date, Hult will refund the program fee in full, less the deposit amount. Unfortunately, because we must supply course materials and arrange for transportation and activities in advance, we cannot offer a refund for students who cancel less than 30 days before the program start date.
