Roopsi Narula awarded USD 2,000 scholarship
(LONDON – August 3, 2011) Divyan Gupta, a 2009 Hult International Business School MBA graduate and current Senior Assistant Vice President at Centrica plc, inaugurates the Shifaruh Scholarship for Indian nationals to foster access to higher education in his native India.
The Shifaruh Scholarship in the amount of USD 2,000 acknowledges Indian applicants with exceptional leadership qualities and a keen interest in pursuing a career in the field of marketing.
Divyan’s grant signifies his commitment to his alma mater and will be awarded each academic year in memory of his loving grandparents. The word “Shifaruh” means banyan tree, which signifies knowledge and eternal life. Divyan said: “I expect the Shifaruh Scholarship to be recognized among brilliant Indian applicants as a stepping stone to acquiring not only a competitive business outlook, but also a benevolent outlook with a genuine wish to give back to India.”
The scholarship committee reviewed several applications for the 2011 academic year and selected Roopsi Narula based on her exceptional qualifications. “We look for candidates that show maturity and a genuine interest to give back to their community in India,” said Luis Escamilla, Hult Director of Alumni.
Roopsi Narula, an Indian native from Ambala City in the state of Haryana presented a compelling strategy to the application question. She proposes to fight hunger in India by packaging excess food currently wasted because of insufficient storage facilities.
“I wish to pursue an MBA from a top university with the aim of one day becoming a job provider to young talented people,” said Roopsi. She will join the Boston campus and intends to rotate to Shanghai and Dubai during her academic year. Divyan will mentor her during the MBA program and will encourage her to further develop her idea for potential implementation.
