Strategic Leadership for Globalization 2.0
In this talk, based on research with 100 senior leaders around the world for his forthcoming book The Great Remobilization: Strategies & Designs for a Smarter Global Future (MIT Press, October 2023), thought-leader and scholar-entrepreneur Prof. Olaf Groth identifies tectonic shifts in the operating system and architecture of the global economy. The 6C forces (COVID-like pandemics, cognitive technologies, crypto & web 3, cybersecurity, climate & carbon, China) converge to create tectonic shifts in our prevailing Globalization 1.0 paradigm toward Globalization 2.0: The Cognitive Economy. This is accompanied by political, societal, and economic turmoil, which in turn creates new opportunities and risks for executives, investors and policy makers alike. Through a new FLP-IT framework that leverages scenario planning, leadership and visioning principles and portfolio theory we can chart a path into this future, taking us to new growth horizons while enhancing trust and anti-fragility for our stakeholders.
Olaf is a professor of practice for global strategy, innovation & economics, and digital & disruption futures classes at Hult, teaching across our global network of campuses. He also serves as professional faculty at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business.
Olaf has 25 years of experience as an executive and adviser in innovation and tech-focused multinationals, startups, and consultancies. He is founder & CEO of insights think-tank, Cambrian Futures, and product do-tank, Cambrian Designs, which advises corporate, government, and foundation clients on deep tech disruption organization and strategies. Olaf is co-author of Solomon’s Code: Humanity in a World of Thinking Machines and a frequent contributor to media outlets like: WIRED, Financial Times, The Hill, Harvard Business Review and many others.
