Course Structure

The course is divided into 4 modules.

01 What is influencing?

Examines and explores what influencing is and why its importance is ever increasing. You will end this module completing a reflection exercise looking at the skills and capabilities that you think are important for successful influencing.

02 Influencing Style & Approach

Introduces the concept of impact and impression management and how these relate to influencing. You will complete the Ashridge Influencing Style Preference Inventory to help assess your approach to influencing.

03 Influencing Styles

Looks at the different influencing styles and when you could use each of them. An exercise will help you decide the correct influencing style and when it is appropriate to use.

04 Influencing Tools & Techniques

Explores several practical tools and techniques and leaves you with some top tips to act as a reminder to help you begin to incorporate these ideas into your day-to-day influencing.

Meet the Faculty


Fiona Elsa Dent - MA, MSc, Chartered FCIPD, FHEA

Fiona joined Ashridge in 1989 and teaches across a broad spectrum of leadership, personal, interpersonal and relationship skills and is trained in a range of psychometrics. Prior to Ashridge she worked in the financial services industry, local and central government.


Mike Brent - MSc, Dip Mgmt, Dip Marketing, MA, MSc, MCMI

A British and French citizen, Mike is a member of the Associate Faculty and Professor of Leadership practise at Ashridge. He specialises in team building, coaching, cross cultural management, influencing, leading change and personal development. Prior to joining Ashridge he was Head of HRM Department at Rennes Graduate Business School in France
