Course Structure

The course is divided into 4 modules.

01 Mapping Your Coaching behaviors

You will map your own coaching behaviors, explore your current approach to coaching and the type of coach you really are, and examine your strengths and development areas.

02 What is coaching and why is it so popular?

This module defines coaching, explores why it is so popular as an approach within leadership and highlights how and why to adapt your coaching style and interventions.

03 What works well in coaching?

You will understand how effective coaching is and what factors contribute to the effectiveness. You will complete an exercise in relational coaching.

04 Applications in coaching

You will learn how to recognize good coaching and develop your skill as a coach. To complete the course, you will create your own coaching charter which will help you make your first steps as an improved coach and manager.

Meet the Faculty


Erik de Haan - MA, MSc, PhD

Erik de Haan is the Director of Ashridge’s Centre for Coaching and Professor of Organisation Development and Coaching at the VU University Amsterdam. He joined Ashridge Business School in 2002 after 10 years of experience as an O.D. consultant in The Netherlands. His consulting approach is informed by his counselling, group-dynamics and psychotherapy training. He specialises in working with the organisational unconscious and in surfacing hidden levels of the company or team culture.
