Curriculum

At Hult, we believe the best way to learn business and leadership is by doing. That's why Hult’s Executive MBA curriculum emphasizes practical application at every step. As you learn technical business knowledge and theory, you’ll also continually apply it, strengthening your soft skills and expanding your capacity to lead.

Global Executive MBA students can choose to study at our campuses in Boston, London, or Dubai and can take electives at any Hult campus. Year 1

Fall

Immersion

Immersion is a combination of learning academic fundamentals, leadership development, building new relationships, and forging a sense of community, all while orienting yourself with the city and campus.

Financial Accounting

Learn about the concepts and practices of financial and managerial accounting. You will deal with the recognition, measurement, and reporting of a firm’s economic transactions and be exposed to the framework of generally accepted accounting principles, both U.S. and international. Focus on the use of accounting information to measure, analyze, and report economic events for internal decision-making purposes. You will also learn about cost behavior, reporting, budgeting, and activity-based costing.

Operations Management

One of the major functions of the organization is the delivery of goods and services to meet customer demand. You’ll develop an understanding of operations management in both service and manufacturing organizations, with an emphasis on international operations. Examine the functions and roles of operations managers, how operations relates to and works with other functions in the organization, and how to carefully execute operations strategy.

SEPT - DEC

Business & Global Society

Explore the economic, social, and political context of business. Identify and address the institutional frameworks that shape the wider context of business, including regulatory regimes and social norms that represent both opportunities and constraints for corporates. You’ll develop an understanding of the meaning, importance, and implications of social responsibility for all of the stakeholders in the global economy. You’ll also consider how organizations and managers have come to terms with ideological conflicts in the global system in their actions and decisions.

International Marketing

Marketing is the interface between the company and the marketplace. Managers in all functional areas of business need an understanding of marketing fundamentals. While marketing managers create and implement marketing strategy, managers in accounting, finance, and operations also need to understand marketing plans that require their approval or help to disseminate to the wider organization. You’ll learn the processes involved in the creation, communication, pricing, and distribution of products. Through a managerial perspective, you’ll understand the tasks and decisions faced by marketing managers, including target market selection, competitive positioning, and distribution strategies. There’s a particular emphasis on international marketing contexts.

Financial Management

Develop the financial skills and logical thought processes necessary to understand and discuss financial policy decisions in a global economy. Objectives include developing an understanding of the time value of money, using financial statements in decision making, understanding the nature of financial markets, the cost of capital, valuation of stocks and bonds, management of short-term assets, short-term and long-term financing, lease financing, capital markets, multinational financial management, and special topics in financial management. You will also address the impact of legal, social, technological, and ethical considerations on efficient economic outcomes.

Leadership Development

Among the unique features of the Hult EMBA program is a focus on leadership skills. Based on research conducted by Hult, it has been determined that while organizations value analytic and business acumen in their leaders, an ability to deploy business strategies using the softer skills of business is what differentiates the better leaders from others. You’ll build on the skills and models introduced during Immersion and specifically focus on growth mindset, interpersonal influence, and team collaboration. Through interactive and collaborative learning, you’ll build skills in communication, relationship building, persuasion, negotiation, and conflict resolution. The workshops are a companion to Hult’s peer feedback process and can provide input on your development priorities.

Managerial Economics

Study the analytical foundations that are essential to rigorously address key issues in competitive strategy, marketing strategy, and related fields to make better decisions. You’ll review companies’ strategic decision-making problems, their available options, and how the competitive environment affects performance. Develop skills for making effective managerial decisions and strategic choices based on the analysis of companies’ cost structures and their market conditions.

Organizational Behavior

Explore the psychological and sociological foundations of individual and group behavior in organizations so that you can improve your abilities to motivate others, make decisions, design organizations, and navigate national and corporate cultures, with a special focus on multicultural business contexts. Develop the knowledge, abilities, and skills required to become a successful member of organizations in the future, wherever they might be based. Become familiar with different conceptual lenses for understanding organizational life and use these lenses to diagnose complex, multidimensional situations and decide upon courses of action. You will be stretched to think as a business professional and build a foundation to develop current competence and future growth.

SEPT - DEC

Global Strategy

Executives face constant change in global industry as well as in their own backyard. The solutions they must define strike a delicate balance between adapting strategic thinking to business realities and implementing attitudes that are essential to motivating their teams. Develop a deep understanding of the challenges top management in today’s corporations face when implementing corporate and global strategy. You will focus on the craft, the opportunities, and the challenges of developing strategies. Among the analytical skills are methodologies and frameworks for product, firm, industry, and market analysis.

Analytics in Business Decisions

In this new world of information overload, employers actively seek candidates who have the ability to translate data into actionable solutions. Place yourself at the intersection of statistical analysis and business knowledge so that you can make meaningful, impactful contributions to any business.

Future Mindset

In the next 10 years the rise of new exponential technologies will change economics and daily life around the world. Making sense of the possibilities and experiences that a new world of mobility, big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence will bring requires a future mindset that can understand and act in rapidly shifting digital contexts, organizations, and technologies. Hult students will build competencies in the mindsets and approaches of the new digital economy, exploring the contexts in which digitally forward organizations define new opportunities—and how they turn these opportunities into learning and growth.

JAN - MAR

Future Challenge

Your final challenge in the spring of your second year is the capstone to your core courses and demands the utmost creativity. Building upon themes established throughout the program, the Future Challenge calls upon students to harness disruptive technology to create a compelling new business opportunity, either for your own startup or for an existing company. You’ll prepare for the Future Challenge by learning about the disruptive technologies themselves (e.g. blockchain, gene editing, artificial intelligence). You and your team are then given three weeks to develop innovative business ideas utilizing a disruptive technology. Winning teams will present their ideas to external judges who include senior executives, entrepreneurs, and venture capitalists.
