Resilient Leadership in the 21st Century

Welcome to an inspiring morning exploring the latest thinking in leadership and how you can develop your own leadership resilience.

There is now little doubt that 21st Century leaders are expected to succeed in an increasingly VUCA world (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous). The demands of not just surviving, but thriving in this environment, may require a different way of viewing the world, and a different way of defining successful leadership.

To adapt in a VUCA world, leaders are increasingly talking about the importance of resilience, and building resilient teams, but what does this actually mean? What does a resilient leader look like, and is resilience always desired? Should a leader be strong in the face of adversity, or show their vulnerability? Should they maintain their authenticity, even when this may mean admitting failures and mistakes, or is the ‘strong and charismatic leader’ needed now more than ever?

In this session, Prof Vicki Culpin, will discuss the topic of resilience, drawing on her own and others research, as well as her experience working with senior leaders across the world. Participants will have the opportunity to explore what a ‘resilient leader’ may look like, and discuss what behaviors, or ‘protection factors’ help to build resilience.

*Participants will also be offered, for free, the opportunity to complete the Ashridge Resilience Questionnaire (ARQ) when registering to attend the conference. This psychometric measures six aspects of resilient behavior, and individualized reports will be handed to participants at the event, with time given to participants to explore their own resilience, and discuss any changes they may wish to make to help build their resilience in the future.
