I set a task for myself to have two coffees a week with people I didn&#8217;t know and exactly using the line, \u2018I\u2019m doing my MBA in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hult.edu\/en\/locations\/london\/\">London<\/a>, here\u2019s my backstory, I\u2019d love to pick your brain about how you ended up where you are and what your plans are going forward.\u2019 I got a 98 percent success rate using that. The network developed through my classmates [at Hult] to help lead my company globally, help me with my job, and recruiting has been hugely valuable, because the CEO\u2019s role is not to be an expert in any one area of a business, but rather to understand every area and have incredibly smart and gifted people managing those specific areas. Not having an ego while building your senior team is extraordinarily important because you\u2019ll never find a success story that didn\u2019t have a great supporting cast.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">[Tweet &#8220;Tip on Fundraising: Always raise 50% more money than needed.&#8221;]<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">Tip #3: When fundraising, remember the rainy days<\/h2>\n<p><img class=\"alignnone wp-image-8970 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hult.edu\/blog\/media\/uploads\/2017\/04\/CRU-BlogPost3-tip3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"702\" height=\"395\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cAlways raise 50 percent more money than needed. I\u2019ve had to go back out to raise more money because I didn\u2019t raise enough the first time around, and it\u2019s a waste of time. Raise more money so you can have a larger inventory, so you can have more slack in your business. Have that war chest available so you can take three to four months to regroup and rebuild the business if you need, rather than go under.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">Tip #4: Plan for the good days and the bad days<\/h2>\n<p><img class=\"alignnone wp-image-8971 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hult.edu\/blog\/media\/uploads\/2017\/04\/CRU-BlogPost3-tip4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"702\" height=\"395\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cUnexpected things happen all the time. From an angel investor pulling out at the last minute to my supply chain saying the coffee capsules we\u2019ve been using for the last two years are no longer available as of next week. The one guarantee in a startup is things\u00a0will always go wrong. And I truly believe it\u2019s how you maneuver and deal with the bad things that split the successes from the failures.&#8221;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">[Tweet &#8220;One guarantee in a startup is things will always go wrong&#8221;]<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">Tip #5: As a business owner, how to keep self-doubt at bay<\/h2>\n<p><img class=\"alignnone wp-image-8972 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hult.edu\/blog\/media\/uploads\/2017\/04\/CRU-BlogPost3-tip5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"702\" height=\"395\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cThere are 45 people \u2013 20 employees and expectations of 25 shareholders \u2013 who put their faith in me on a daily basis to continue to grow the business in the right direction to get a return on investment. It\u2019s exhausting, but also exhilarating because I can\u2019t let these people down. That said, I never want to be afraid of failure, but I want to know that if one of my businesses does fail, I can look at myself in the mirror and say, \u2018I\u00a0tried. Everything.\u2019 And that I can look at my staff and say, \u2018I tried as hard as I possibly could. I gave it everything I had.
