Worldwide, over 3,500 students applied to compete this year, almost three times as many as last year. Selected participants hail from over 130 different countries and represent 300 different higher education institutions, including the best global business schools. Harvard, Wharton, Columbia, Chicago, Stanford, MIT, London Business School, INSEAD, Hong Kong UST, CEIBS and the Indian School of Business are all represented.<\/p>\n<p>In its third year, the Hult GCC has become one of the world\u2019s top platforms for social change. College and university students globally recognize it as the largest case competition and non-profit organizations consider it to be a major crowdsourcing platform for social good.<\/p>\n<p>The 2012 Hult GCC challenges student teams to come up with new, sustainable business models that aim to tackle poverty. In particular, students will focus on devising solutions for the education, energy and housing sectors.<\/p>\n<p>The Hult GCC counts on its partner, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clintonglobalinitiative.org\/\">Clinton Global Initiative<\/a> and its non-profits &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/one.laptop.org\/\">One Laptop per Child<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.solar-aid.org\/\">SolarAid<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.habitat.org\/\">Habitat for Humanity<\/a> to provide the subject matter expertise in framing the challenge.<\/p>\n<p>Former New York <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mario_Cuomo\">Governor Mario Cuomo;<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Michael_Treschow\">Michael Treschow<\/a>, Chairman of Unilever; and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.muhammadyunus.org\/\">Mohammad Yunus<\/a>, Nobel Prize Winner and founder of Grameen Bank will participate in the selection of the winning teams. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clintonfoundation.org\/\">President Bill Clinton<\/a> will serve as this year\u2019s keynote speaker and personally present the awards to the winning teams.<\/p>\n<p>The Hult GCC founder said, \u201cWe must combat poverty and all other social issues through new and innovative approaches.
