When Hult London undergraduate Isabella Murillo first connected with ALTIOS International, she wasn\u2019t submitting an application, she was hosting a panel at a Hult event. But her work ethic, professionalism, and ability to build connections sparked something bigger. <\/span><\/p>\n

Last summer, she was a Project Assistant Intern at the global consultancy, proving that when you take the initiative, the right people notice.<\/span><\/p>\n

We caught up with Isabella to find out how she created her own career break, what she\u2019s learned so far, and why going the extra mile pays off.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: How did you land your internship at ALTIOS?<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Isabella: <\/span><\/b>It was quite organic really! I was planning a panel for the Hult Consulting Club, where I\u2019m Head of Operations. I reached out to Lucia in Hult\u2019s Employer Relations team for speaker support, and she connected me with an Hult alum who\u2019s now a director at ALTIOS.<\/span><\/p>\n

He agreed to speak and mentioned ALTIOS was bringing in interns. I expressed interest, asked questions, and after the panel, he told me to send my CV directly. Two days later, I got a call\u2014not for an interview, but for a start date.<\/span>
\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: What did that moment mean to you?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Isabella:<\/span><\/b> It was surreal. I\u2019d spent months applying for roles, getting ghosted or rejected. This opportunity came from a real connection and my initiative. I\u2019d expected a formal process but instead, I got a moment of recognition. It meant everything.<\/span>
\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: How did the Hult community and careers support help?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Isabella: <\/span><\/b>The support was amazing, especially from Lucia. Her role in Employer Relations was a game-changer this year. She helped me find speakers for the Consulting Club, Women in Business, and Banking Society. She bridged the gap between clubs and career opportunities.<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve also been to multiple networking events, like the <\/span>Tech Her<\/span><\/i> event hosted with Microsoft. These experiences shaped my confidence, gave me contacts, and taught me how to operate in a professional space.<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: How has the Hult curriculum prepared you for this role?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Isabella: <\/span><\/b>Hult pushes you to be professional from day one. You\u2019re constantly presenting, networking, and solving real-world problems. That mindset helped me walk into ALTIOS with confidence, not just academically, but practically.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Q: What\u2019s been your biggest challenge at ALTIOS so far?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Isabella: <\/span><\/b>Managing multiple responsibilities. I work across several departments, and it can be a lot. I\u2019ve had to sharpen my time management.\u00a0 Now, I write everything down, prioritize, and structure my days more effectively.<\/span>
\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: Can you tell us about a highlight moment during your internship?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Isabella: <\/span><\/b>Being in a client meeting with international teams, including CEOs and executives from the German office. I looked around and realised: I\u2019m 20, I\u2019m interning, and I\u2019ve earned a seat at this table. That moment made me proud.<\/span>
\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: What\u2019s your biggest takeaway from the experience?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Isabella: <\/span><\/b>Go the extra mile. Not just to impress, but to gain trust. When you go beyond what\u2019s expected, people notice. I\u2019ve been trusted with meaningful tasks and given room to grow because I showed I was invested.<\/span>
\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Q: What advice would you give your past self before you started this internship, and for other Hult students looking for roles right now?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Isabella: <\/span><\/b>My advice for myself would be to set expectations early. You don\u2019t need to know everything or ask dozens of questions on day one. It\u2019s OK to pace yourself. <\/span><\/p>\n

For students looking for roles right now, be open to opportunities outside your immediate career plan\u2014especially in London. Boutique firms offer great experience too. What matters most is your attitude and what you put into it.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
