This week, we visited London\u2019s undergraduate Clubs and Societies Fair to discover what social, professional, sporty, and cultural opportunities students could join this year. And we weren\u2019t disappointed. From flexing your event management skills at TEDxHult to indulging in drama, horror, comedy, and beyond in Film Club, there\u2019s something for everyone. We had a little chat with some of the clubs to get an idea of what they\u2019re all about, and here\u2019s what they had to say.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Film Club<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

A lot of our events are film screenings and discussions, but we try to go beyond the remit of an ordinary film club. For example, we get screenwriters and directors in to give talks to our members.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Most of our members are aspiring screenwriters themselves, each with a short film or passion project on the side. Naturally, they see this club as an opportunity to further their connections in the film industry and make things happen for themselves.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Inevitably we can utilize the business acumen we hone at Hult to help us in our future careers. It\u2019s a fun club, but don\u2019t get us wrong<\/span>\u2014we\u2019re still dreaming big.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Latin American Club<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

We\u2019re all about cultural exchange and learning about Latin America. There are no rules on who can and can\u2019t be a member, but we obviously encourage students with Latin heritage to sign up.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019re still fairly new (a week old!) but this club has been in the works for a while. We\u2019re still working on how to get members involved and so we\u2019re using innovative marketing strategies from our home countries to appeal to the student body. We\u2019re all about not taking ourselves too seriously.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Currently, our board members are from Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Guatemala, and Spain. That\u2019s it thus far but with the range of diversity Hult has on its campuses, we know we\u2019ll be racking up members really soon.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Board Games Club<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Like most clubs on campus, Board Games Club was born out of passion. We saw a need for a club that brings people together for the sole purpose of socializing and having fun, rather than being competitive.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The most popular board games played at the club’s events include classic games like Monopoly, Uno, Jenga, Taboo, Risk, and Pictionary. Also, we say we\u2019re not competitive but sometimes our sessions last into the night just to finish the game and figure out who won.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Especially Monopoly, that one can get heated. <\/span>We find that as a club that\u2019s mainly centered around socializing, we do our best work when we collaborate with other clubs. Clubs like the African, Asian, and Caribbean Societies have some events planned with us a sort of cultural exchange. Because most people are aware of their own country\u2019s board games but not those from across the world. It\u2019ll be fun getting to know them.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Consulting Club<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

First things first we classify ourselves as a junior enterprise, which means we\u2019re a student-run organization that works with real-life clients. You can join us through two ways:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Become a member by sending in your CV. After becoming a member, you can apply to work on client challenges with us. This involves working with a client for 1-2 months as a consultant, gaining valuable real-world experience.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Become an assistant. In this role, you would shadow the board members (sales director, marketing director, etc.) for a full year. This could potentially lead to a director position the following year. You should know that we\u2019ve only taken on first and second-year students for these assistant roles so far. But that doesn\u2019t mean things can\u2019t change!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mergers and Acquisitions Club<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

The M&A Society is a financial club that focuses on events related to high finance, particularly mergers and acquisitions (M&A). The club has a partnership with UBS to provide a simulation experience for students to develop their finance skills.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We have recently launched a Student Managed Investment Fund. This fund is managed by student analysts who conduct research and make investment decisions with real money. The goal of this fund is to give students practical experience in the financial industry and help them build their resumes and understanding of corporate finance.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The club attracts two main types of members: those who are very finance-focused and join to gain certificates and experience, and those who have a general interest in finance, perhaps having taken a minor in the subject, but are not necessarily the most finance-oriented individuals.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

TEDx Hult<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

TEDx Hult has been around for a while. We know how popular we are because of the brand TEDx. So, this year we are going to mix things up. Instead of only holding two major TEDx events in a year we plan to have more, smaller events, to maintain a stronger presence on campus and keep members engaged.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This year we\u2019re also using different branding elements such as a Hollywood aesthetic, where red carpets and gold awards adorn our shows. This year’s overall theme, however, is \u201cMind the Gap\u201d, taking a playful take on the London Underground\u2019s famous slogan by hosting events about lesser-known topics for members to fill in their knowledge, hence \u201cMind the Gap\u201d.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
