But if you are a member of the \u201cculturally bold\u201d who has chosen Hult International Business School, then you\u2019ve also chosen to leave home, your job, your beloved family dog, and travel to a new and exciting place to pursue a Masters. Hult campuses in Boston, San Francisco, London, Shanghai and Dubai all have a wealth of cultural experiences waiting for you. With this in mind, I bring you <strong>\u201c<em>Ask an Artsy Person\u201d<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 a resource for finding cheap and great culture in your new city.<\/p>\n<p>I dreamed up this idea because one of the things I love about Hult is the opportunity to explore <em>great cities of the world<\/em>. I also took a cue from one of my favorite blogs, <a href=\"http:\/\/thehairpin.com\/\">The Hairpin \u2013 Ladies First<\/a>, which showcases great blog segments like, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/thehairpin.com\/tag\/ask-a-clean-person\/\">Ask a clean person<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This week, we hit London (where I\u2019m currently enrolled as a Master of International Marketing student). London is a classical western art mecca. There are numerous world-class art galleries, hundreds of performing arts institutions, and a vibrant music and cabaret scene. Where do we start? <a name=\"_GoBack\"><\/a>How about with some great questions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q: I am student with limited time and money, where should I go first?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A: Did you know that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npg.org.uk\/\">National Portrait Gallery<\/a> is only a 20-minute walk from Hult House?! The gallery, like many British museums, is free of charge! Special exhibitions may have a concession fee, but to see the general collection it\u2019ll cost you \u00a30! The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britishmuseum.org\/\">British Museum<\/a> (only a 10-minute walk from Hult) has the same set up. Boom! Go get your art on.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q: I binge watched <em>Glee<\/em> during Module A. I\u2019d like to see a show or musical, but\u00a0<\/strong><strong>it seems expensive. Are there cheap tickets?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A: It depends (a Master of International Marketing\u2019s favorite response). Most theatres offer \u201cday of\u201d rush tickets, even for sold out productions. You can get\u00a0 \u00a39-22 tickets to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.roh.org.uk\/\">Royal Opera<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.roh.org.uk\/\">House<\/a> (opera\/ballet) by either showing up or calling the box office after 10 a.m. the day of the show.<\/p>\n<p>For West End musicals, there are ticket kiosks at Leicester Square that offer cheap (\u00a312-40) tickets to shows like <em>Wicked<\/em>, <em>Book of Mormon<\/em>, <em>The Body Guard<\/em>, and <em>Once.\u00a0<\/em>Please note that if a show is particularly popular, or has Jude Law in it, it may be difficult to get cheap rush tickets. That doesn\u2019t mean it isn\u2019t worth seeing, it just means that everyone else has the same plan you have.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q: I\u2019m tired of playing the part of the poor student. I want to splurge!\u00a0<\/strong><strong>I want to see something cool, something different. What\u2019s under the radar?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A: London is great for fun and unusual experiences. If money is no object, I highly recommend <a href=\"http:\/\/www.secretcinema.org\/\">Secret Cinema<\/a> for a fun and unique night out. It\u2019s a pop-up event that happens all over London. It features movies with unique, immersive experiences. I\u2019d also recommend <a href=\"http:\/\/www.evansandpeel.com\/\">Evans and Peel Detective Agency<\/a> \u2013 a bar where you bring a case for the detectives to solve. Or, there\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/wiltons.org.uk\/\">Wilton\u2019s Music Hall<\/a>, which shows movies, features bands and holds dances. As always, <a style=\"font-style: italic;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.timeout.com\/london\">Timeout<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/londonist.com\/\"><em>Londonist<\/em><\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/hypeapp.co\/\">Shoreditch Hype<\/a> (an app for download) are great resources for fun things going on.<\/p>\n<p>London is an expensive city, but you don\u2019t need a lot of money to have a great time. Throw yourself into the hustle and bustle; get involved and experience the culture and art that is available to you.
