Firstly, from the top down, linked to our mission statement. And from the bottom up, based on research that we conducted in <strong>collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.burning-glass.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Burning Glass Technologies<\/a><\/strong> on which skills our students will need in the future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We set out to build a curriculum that fits Hult&#8217;s mission to be <strong>&#8220;The most relevant business school in the world.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To prepare our students for the way the world is changing, we focused on three<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>key themes in our design:\u00a0<strong>World.\u00a0Future.\u00a0You.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A panel of our expert faculty helped to adapt many of our existing courses, as well as creating entirely new courses across these three themes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;To prepare our students for the way the world is changing, we focused on three<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>key themes in our design:\u00a0World.\u00a0Future.\u00a0You.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Dr. Jannicke Roos,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Executive Vice President of Hult&#8217;s Undergraduate Program<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>Why is it so important for a business student to learn about the WORLD?<\/h3>\n<p>Business operates on a <strong>global scale<\/strong>. Whether you work for a large multinational or a small company, we\u2019re all impacted by global trade and interconnected markets.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, the <strong>culture within businesses <\/strong>is often still distinctly local, as evidenced by some of the unsuccessful business mergers that have fallen apart primarily due to cultural differences.<\/p>\n<p>We prepare our students to understand these <strong>global forces<\/strong>, to be able to work in teams from very different cultural backgrounds, and to have the opportunity to gain <strong>international exposure<\/strong> by rotating across our campus network. This is something we made sure remained integral to our new design.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>What role does the theme of the FUTURE play?<\/h3>\n<p>The world is changing rapidly, with\u00a0<strong>new technologies<\/strong> changing the nature of jobs and how entire industries will function.<\/p>\n<p>For example, a recent\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pwc.co.uk\/services\/economics-policy\/insights\/the-impact-of-automation-on-jobs.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>PwC\u00a0report<\/strong><\/a> forecasts that up to 40% of jobs may be automated by 2030. Likewise,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.delltechnologies.com\/content\/dam\/delltechnologies\/assets\/perspectives\/2030\/pdf\/SR1940_IFTFforDellTechnologies_Human-Machine_070517_readerhigh-res.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dell<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>predicts that 85% of jobs in 2030 haven\u2019t yet been invented.<\/p>\n<p>Our students will be exposed to the technologies that are disrupting entire industries. Whether it&#8217;s <strong>3D printing and virtual reality<\/strong> disrupting the healthcare industry or <strong>artificial intelligence and machine learning<\/strong> disrupting lots of industries including trade, students will have the opportunity to <strong>think critically<\/strong> about the risks and opportunities around these new technologies.<\/p>\n<p>We want to help students <strong>embrace change<\/strong> and <strong>feel prepared<\/strong> for what the future holds.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>How does learning about YOURSELF benefit a business student?<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/ellevate\/2018\/02\/15\/self-awareness-being-more-of-what-makes-you-great\/#6195cdbd40dd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Several studies<\/a> have shown that <strong>self-awareness is key<\/strong>, and that having both soft and\u00a0technical skills are as valuable as having specific knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve made sure that our students learn to <strong>reflect on their own strengths<\/strong> and development areas, and that all our courses not only teach our students theory, but also have them practicing what they learn for themselves, with a strong emphasis on <strong>skill-building<\/strong> in every single course.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16888 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hult.edu\/blog\/media\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Screen-Shot-2018-09-17-at-10.22.18.png\" alt=\"Beyond business\" width=\"493\" height=\"629\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hult.edu\/blog\/media\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Screen-Shot-2018-09-17-at-10.22.18.png 493w, https:\/\/www.hult.edu\/blog\/media\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Screen-Shot-2018-09-17-at-10.22.18-392x500.png 392w, https:\/\/www.hult.edu\/blog\/media\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Screen-Shot-2018-09-17-at-10.22.18-270x345.png 270w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 493px) 100vw, 493px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>How did the collaboration with Burning Glass influence the curriculum design?<\/h3>\n<p><img class=\" wp-image-16880 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hult.edu\/blog\/media\/uploads\/2018\/09\/bgt-logo.png\" alt=\"burning glass\" width=\"401\" height=\"100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hult.edu\/blog\/media\/uploads\/2018\/09\/bgt-logo.png 542w, https:\/\/www.hult.edu\/blog\/media\/uploads\/2018\/09\/bgt-logo-500x125.png 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 401px) 100vw, 401px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In order to understand which skills were most important for our students, we launched a <strong>collaboration with\u00a0Burning Glass Technologies\u00a0<\/strong>to identify today&#8217;s most in-demand skills and competencies.<\/p>\n<p>We looked at the\u00a0<strong>top jobs for business grads <\/strong>and<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>analyzed millions of relevant job postings\u00a0to pinpoint the skills required for these roles.<\/p>\n<p>Based on this research, we developed our own<strong> skill framework<\/strong>, so that our faculty can use common terminology and collaborate in how they teach, assess, and give feedback across different skill areas.<\/p>\n<p>This will help students to continue to build on the foundation that they develop in their first exposure to a new skill.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>What is the role and purpose of the Universal Education courses?<\/h3>\n<p>Our <strong>Universal Education<\/strong>\u00a0courses are an essential part of us being an institution that prides itself on going beyond business to prepare students for the future. The majority of the classes focus on the three core themes of <strong>World, Future,<\/strong> and <strong>You<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For example, in terms of &#8220;world,&#8221; students are expected to take at least <strong>three<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>electives<\/strong> specifically focused on either political economy, global crises, or culture.<\/p>\n<p>On the theme of &#8220;future,&#8221; there are a number of<strong> new courses on emerging technologies<\/strong> in our core curriculum, in which students conduct research and think critically about the potential implications of these new technologies.<\/p>\n<p>And when it comes to &#8220;you,&#8221; the curriculum begins with a course called <strong>Exploring Self &amp; Society,<\/strong>\u00a0that focuses on developing self-awareness, a growth mindset, and understanding the local community.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>How do the courses both teach and test students\u2019 knowledge and skills?<\/h3>\n<p><img class=\"alignnone wp-image-16866 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hult.edu\/blog\/media\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Screen-Shot-2018-09-17-at-10.20.41-432x345.png\" alt=\"curriculum\" width=\"445\" height=\"355\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hult.edu\/blog\/media\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Screen-Shot-2018-09-17-at-10.20.41-432x345.png 432w, https:\/\/www.hult.edu\/blog\/media\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Screen-Shot-2018-09-17-at-10.20.41-500x399.png 500w, https:\/\/www.hult.edu\/blog\/media\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Screen-Shot-2018-09-17-at-10.20.41-768x613.png 768w, https:\/\/www.hult.edu\/blog\/media\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Screen-Shot-2018-09-17-at-10.20.41.png 780w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 445px) 100vw, 445px\" \/>We have developed a <strong>framework for core skills<\/strong>, based on the research we conducted in collaboration with Burning Glass. We have embedded this throughout our curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of skills, our students will focus on\u00a0<strong>individual productivity skills\u2014<\/strong>from critical thinking, to research, writing and data analysis, and\u00a0<strong>collaborative productivity skills,\u00a0<\/strong>such as\u00a0effective communication and\u00a0relationship-building.<\/p>\n<p>They will also focus on\u00a0<strong>technical skills\u00a0<\/strong>and skills specific to their\u00a0business major.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Can you give an example of when students practice the theory they learn in class?<\/h3>\n<p>We invite <strong>live clients<\/strong> to participate in our classes and we are particularly excited to have launched <strong>one core challenge<\/strong> per year that all our students participate in.<\/p>\n<p>Students learn to pitch an idea in our <strong>start-up challenge<\/strong>\u00a0and then\u00a0participate in a <strong>social impact challenge<\/strong>, where they learn that whether a business is for-profit or not-for-profit, it can still be a force to do good.<\/p>\n<p>Next, they participate in a <strong>challenge related to the major<\/strong> that they have chosen to specialize in<strong>\u2014<\/strong>Marketing, Finance, Entrepreneurship, Accounting, or Management.<\/p>\n<p>And finally, as the <strong>capstone<\/strong> to their degree, they can participate in our <strong>live-consulting challenge<\/strong> where they help a <strong>major corporation<\/strong> solve one of their pressing issues. In the past, we have worked with Unilever, UBS, Amazon Launchpad, Yelp, and McLaren.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>How does the Hult Bachelor of Business Administration degree stand apart from the others out there?<\/h3>\n<p>Most business schools add knowledge, but don\u2019t necessarily transform the individual. We believe in <strong>education as transformation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>We want our students to grow, becoming more confident, with both the <strong>skills and mindsets to deliver results<\/strong>. We stress\u00a0the importance of having a growth mindset, and daring to step out of their comfort zone to embrace new challenges and experiences.<\/p>\n<p>By virtue of leaving their home countries to come to Hult, our students have already taken the first step.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Most business schools add knowledge, but don\u2019t necessarily transform the individual.
