MBA Curriculum

EXPERIENCE IS THE BEST TEACHER

A combined curriculum

Our award-winning one-year MBA program integrates business theory, critical skills, and the practical application of both these through hands-on experience and action learning. These elements are not taught separately; they are integrated into one comprehensive curriculum.

Knowledge

In each module, you take courses with experts in those fields to give you foundational subject knowledge.

Skills

Throughout the year, you will be trained and assessed on the 'soft' skills that are critical to driving long-term business success.

Experience

Using the knowledge gained in class, you'll tackle real-world business challenges, first through competitive simulation projects, then in an eight-month long Impact Challenge project.

We developed this innovative approach to our curriculum after consulting with global business leaders and top employers who told us that MBA graduates need more of the universal ‘soft’ skills and real-world experience in order to be successful in the modern workplace.

Course content

Courses are structured so that the foundational knowledge gained in class is applied through practical projects and critical skills are developed, assessed, and measured throughout. Click on each entry for a more in-depth description of the course content. For an in-depth description of the course content you can download our program course booklet.

Project Management Specialization

You can choose to take additional project management courses worth 6 credits.

Our Project Management Specialization will equip you with the technical and people skills required to manage major projects for multinationals, family businesses, and NGOs. It’s designed to give you the wide range of skills needed in planning, organizing, securing, and managing resources to meet business objectives.

The demand for skilled project managers is urgent and growing. About 80 percent of all major projects fail to meet expectations because of cost overruns or substandard quality, and less than 20 percent are completed on time. Strong project management can mean the difference between businesses that thrive and those that fail.

Soft skills taught systematically

3 MBA skills needed in the soft skills portion

3 Areas

5 competencies learned during the Hult MBA

5 Competencies

26 observable behaviors learned during the Hult MBA

27 Observable behaviors

It’s not only your grasp of accounting, marketing, or strategy that will determine how successful you are in business. Your long-term success depends on your ability to be able to influence the world around you, articulate your ideas clearly, and build strong relationships. Our MBA curriculum fully integrates the building and assessment of these skills throughout the entire program, and measures your progress systematically. We work with you to identify areas of strength and weakness through peer and self-assessment, and work on improving your skills through a blend of training, mentorship, and feedback. Your progress is measured by ongoing feedback from your peers and professional development specialists. The table above shows our competency model you are assessed on.

Practical projects, hands-on experience

Competitive simulations

Competitive simulations

Our competitive simulations replicate the complexity and uncertainty of the real world while providing a safe environment to learn from mistakes. Simulations range from 45-minute exercises to apply foundational knowledge in areas like negotiation, pricing, and marketing to three-day sessions working on projects like product launches, new business strategies, and corporate turnaround.

Real businesses are simulated with you taking on the role of real business functions. Other teams manage competitor businesses that you compete against. You’ll need to apply both the knowledge learned in class, and 'soft' skills, in order to reach a workable solution – and you’ll have this opportunity throughout the program.

Hult Impact Challenge

The Hult Impact Challenge is an eight-month, hands-on project working in the real world with real companies and organizations. Choosing from entrepreneurial, social, or corporate challenges, your team will work with the businesses’ executives and staff to research, devise and propose the most impactful solution to a problem the company is currently facing. You will compete against other teams and present your final solution to a panel of senior executives. This is the crowning glory of your MBA, providing you with practical business experience, great networking opportunities, and a real opportunity to apply your knowledge, utilize your skills, learn from failures, and build impactful business solutions.
