BOSTON, May 27, 2013 — In a quest to inspire Brazilian business students to solve some of the world’s most pressing social issues, the Hult Prize has announced that its CEO, Ahmad Ashkar, will go on a five-day speaking tour to Brazil. The inaugural tour will take place from June 4-8, 2013.
The Hult Prize’s CEO will visit the following cities:
● São Paulo: June 4-5
● Rio de Janeiro: June 6
● Curitiba: June 7-8
The Hult Prize, awarded by Hult International Business School, encourages business students to set up social enterprises that solve some of the world’s toughest social problems and the winner receives $1 million (2.015.300 real) in start-up funding. This year, the competition attracted 10,000 students from more than 150 countries representing over 350 higher education institutions.
Over 500 contestants came from Latin America, where the Hult Prize has seen a steady increase in applications since it was launched nearly four years ago.
To respond to the growing trend, the Hult Prize has decided to increase its outreach to Latin America and hold a first regional final in São Paulo next year. “The youth in this region have pivoted, and we have answered,” says Ashkar. “As more ideas from Brazil and its youth will amplify our global mission of creating the next wave of global entrepreneurs, we are very excited about coming to Brazil and look forward to welcoming over 200 LatAm finalists in São Paulo next spring.”
The Latin American finalists, representing the top institutions in the region, will pitch their ideas for a chance to meet Hult Prize partner President Clinton and one million in seed funding to launch their new social venture.
Note: The application process for the 2014 Hult Prize will kick-off in September 2013. For more information, go to www.hultprize.org.
