Tech Startup Tastes Success at Hult’s InnoTech Summit
Tasterlab wins £5,000 starter package as Mayor of London stresses the importance of entrepreneurship in InnoTech keynote
(LONDON – April 17, 2012) A unique community offering users the chance to taste a plethora of new experiences has won a startup competition run by the InnoTech Summit. Tasterlab helps its user find new passions through recommendations from experts and friends while providing a range of free or discounted activities to allow people to ‘taste’ experiences.
Held on Friday, the InnoTech Summit brought together technology startups and investors to provide a platform for networking, connecting and sharing ideas. Delegates were also treated to a keynote by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, who stressed the importance of London’s technological entrepreneurship in the country’s economic growth.
Having entered the startup competition in advance of the summit, Tasterlab battled for the prize against four other shortlisted startups in a closed pitch at the event. All five companies pitched their ideas to a ‘jury’ of venture capitalists and technology angels, following which Tasterlab was named the winner. The company will receive a £5,000 business starter package including mentoring and office space provided by the Innovation Warehouse.
"We’re ecstatic to win this competition over the other companies,” said Ben Chappell, managing director of Tasterlab. “Pitching in front of such high profile investors has been an invaluable experience that I know will serve us well as we continue to progress. We’re looking forward to developing our services and inspiring more people to enter into new experiences through a social, information rich platform.”
During his speech at the event, Boris Johnson pledged his support to London’s growing community at Silicon Roundabout saying: “If I could fit this speech into a summary, I’d say how proud I am to be associated with the type of entrepreneurship going on in London today. It’s exactly what is needed to drive our country forward and I’d like to do everything in my power over the next four years to encourage tech city and everyone that works in it.”
