For Mike, the Hult EMBA curriculum is uniquely challenging and inspiring— unlike traditional business schools, it reflects the business needs of today.

Mike Smollan

Executive Director, Smollan - Retail Solutions,
Executive MBA Class of 2016

"Hult really is pushing the boundaries of the curriculum of traditional business schools and embracing the newness of the world and how it works. The classes push you to think progressively about business and to challenge existing ideas. For example taking Corporate Social Responsibility, we had to deconstruct what that means and come up with new models, not just absorb existing information and frameworks. Hult isn't about teaching knowledge about a business world that no longer exists. You learn the ability think about your business in an innovative way."

Change Management

Change is a constant in the business world. The ability to navigate its choppy waters and energetically undertake proactive change separates extraordinary businesses from the rest of the pack and enables them to maintain their competitive advantage over time. The ability to lead and inspire change is one of the most important qualities a business leader can possess. The purpose of this course is to develop awareness and understanding of the particular dynamics of initiating, managing, and achieving successful change in different business contexts, and to develop skills for assessing and addressing the personal, interpersonal, and organizational impact associated with achieving significant change in organizations. This is particularly critical at a time when businesses are being forced to look towards international markets for survival and growth.

Global Strategic Valuation

Traditional and advanced performance and valuation techniques are examined in specific relationship to valuation issues such as behavioral finance, competitive advantage analysis, business strategy, and execution. This course tackles guiding insights for fundamental valuation through macro theme identification, idea generation, bottoms-up analysis, and asset allocation strategies. Applications range from corporate finance to investment management to strategic business planning. This course focuses on the link between strategy and valuation: Quantamental™ techniques converting qualitative understanding of company initiatives into quantitative forecasts and the ultimate impact on valuation—and the reverse. Learn directly from actual money managers, including hedge funds and institutional investors, and firms servicing them such as brokerages and consulting firms. Participants will have the opportunity to use proprietary data and technologies from actual firms that are not otherwise readily accessible and will leave with a more comprehensive understanding of the capital markets and of what drives valuations, and improved decision-making.

Return Driven Strategy

The course in Return Driven Strategy is designed for business leaders, investment professionals, management consultants, and entrepreneurs. The course targets a seemingly wide range of professionals because they all share one discipline in common: What are the business strategies and activities that will maximize the creation of wealth, and how does one evaluate a business’s ability to do so? The course is taught in a comprehensive seminar format broken into modules of lectures, intensive in-group discussions and study, and class discussions. Educators have called for the necessity of having this course content as standard in Business Schools: “The principles and concepts in Return Driven Strategy capture what we as educators and thought leaders should embed in our curricula and teachings in business schools throughout our undergraduate, graduate and executive education programs. Business schools must focus on the importance of a firm commitment to ethically create shareholder value.” -- Arthur Kraft, Ph.D., Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

Scenario Planning

The global economy is increasingly marked by volatility, ambiguity, and uncertainty. In this environment, businesses find it increasingly challenging to make sound strategic decisions. This course explores a framework for making strategic agendas more robust amidst uncertainty—using scenario-based foresight. Both entrepreneurs and executives can use scenario planning to take stock of their assumptions, vet critical uncertainties, and consider alternative futures. It allows all stakeholders to gain greater visibility into the different ways in which a market or a competitive landscape can evolve, and to be prepared with the right moves. This course will address how the integration of scenario planning with strategy frameworks allows us to see uncertainty as opportunity and craft high-level portfolios of strategic options that have a better chance of yielding success.

Strategic Brand Management

A brand is not just a fancy logo or a catchy slogan. A brand should stand for core values that customers will associate with that brand, to the extent that they perceive added value in the brand over and above what the product or service actually does. The question is: How? This highly interactive course will explore not just how to identify what a brand stands for, but also the tools and techniques needed to create a brand.
