About Ashridge

Ashridge House is a Grade 1 listed country mansion set in 190 acres of wonderful gardens, which overlook National Trust woodland in the breathtakingly beautiful Hertfordshire countryside. Ashridge has always been a renowned site of learning. It originated as a monastic order called the ‘College of Bonhommes’ in 1283 and returned to education in the twentieth century. The current building dates from the early 19th century and was designed by the architect James Wyatt.

History and heritage

Ashridge’s rich history is over seven hundred years in the making. During this time it has been a monastery, a home to Earls and Dukes, a training school for young women, a hospital, and now a global business school.

The Gardens at Ashridge

Ashridge Gardens cover 77 hectares (190 acres) and were originally designed by Humphry Repton in the early 19th century. The Gardens are made up of a number of small gardens as well as a large lawn area leading on to avenues of trees affording views out to the old parkland.

Facilities

Ashridge’s high-quality catering, hospitality and accommodation are complemented by a range of sports and leisure facilities, which include a swimming pool, tennis courts and a fitness and Lifestyle Centre.

Art at Ashridge

Ashridge is home to over 90 paintings from three distinct collections; our own and the Tower and Egerton collections. These impressive collections greet visitors in the Main Hall and surrounding rooms of the house and are an intrinsic part of Ashridge as an important historical place.
