Matt is an Ashridge Adjunct. He consults to, writes and teaches about senior leaders and their relationship to talent, performance, reputation and legacy. He wrote Pariahs: Hubris, Reputation and Organisational Crises, a practical study of the patterns leading to major crises and how to prevent and treat them; published in March 2016. He has also written a chapter on VUCA leadership for the Ashridge book Inspiring Leadership (Bloomsbury 2017). For Ashridge he has led sessions on topics as diverse as Brexit, Hubris in the Coaching Relationship and HR strategy, as well as designing and leading custom Executive Education programmes.
Matt’s consulting draws on his experience as a senior HR executive for Barclays and Shell. In these jobs he played a key role interacting with senior executives, boards and regulators as the organisations faced massive external challenges to their reputations, leadership and cultures. Previously, Matt was a partner at Towers Watson in Chicago and London. He has worked globally for private and public sector projects for clients including Navistar, Convergys, Legal Services Commission, Ofcom and the British Museum.
Matt's first degree was in Classics. He is qualified in a number of psychometric individual and team assessment tools. He is a Trustee of Demos, the think tank, and a school governor.
