Be Charmed by San Francisco
Fog-capped hills, blue sparkling waters, quaint cable cars, vibrant neighborhoods, San Francisco possesses a small town atmosphere—which it is at just 7 square miles (18 sq km) and a population of 800,000. Long considered one of America’s prettiest cities, San Francisco is compact and colorful and walkable city filled with cafes, shops, bookstores, restaurants, museums, and parks. Ecofriendly and full of fashionable, trendy types, it’s no wonder that students from all over the U.S. and the world have flocked to San Francisco to start their lives.
A Culture of Independent Thinkers and Entrepreneurs
San Francisco’s multiculturalism and strong open-minded culture has bred a dynamic and entrepreneurial culture that celebrates tolerance and diversity. As a result, the city has been a magnet for independent thinkers and a hot bed of the “new economy” where the dot. com revolution began and where a strong “start-up” culture exists. Small businesses with fewer than 10 employees and selfemployed firms make up 85% of city establishments. A number of famous brands have been born in the city—from Levi’s blue jeans to casual clothing giant Gap Inc to the hottest social media companies like Twitter. San Francisco
is also the primary banking and finance center of the West Coast.
Study in the Epi-center of High Tech
San Francisco’s Bay Area (a region surrounding the city that encompasses nine counties) is the epicenter of the world’s high-tech industry. Silicon Valley, just south of the city, is home to an extraordinary array of breakthrough companies including Google, Apple, and eBay. The city’s entrepreneurial culture, breathtaking scenery, and economic clout make it a great place to live and study.
